1st & 2nd team Match Reports Tuesday 15 November

Weeks 5 - Return of SOME legends Week 5 of the winter squash season took place last night and with the 1st Team still missing Jason and the 2nd team carrying 3 Injured players it was the turn of some club stalwart’s to take centre stage. The 1st team were away to Bromley LTC. Things started well with reserve Paul Mcleod winning the 1st game and Alex at 1 putting a brave performance against Ted at 1-1. The wheel’s then started to fall off. Paul and Alex both went down 3-1. Next on were Jonny and Jolyon, again it started to look good with Jolyen taking a the 1st game and Jonny losing a very close 1st game. Jonny lost the 2nd but took the 3rd but the revival was short lived as he too went down 3-1 (Sensing a pattern?) Jolyon’s game swung both ways as he lost the 2nd won the 3rd then lost the 4th. This meant at least it wasn’t another 3-1 defeat, He came out on fire in the 5th to take the match 3-2. Last on was Last weeks only winner Dean, unfortunately he could not win again this week and having gone 2-0 down , took the next two then lost the 5th. So a 4-1 defeat with 8 point gained. With only 1 regular player the 2nd team faced a tough match at Home against Bexley 2nds who had 4 of their top 5 players in attendance. Craig (1st reserve) and Webbo had contrasting fortunes with John doing well in the 3rd to take a 3-0 victory and Craig having just lost the 1st 8-10 then taking a 3-0 defeat. The only regular player Martin at 1 raced to a 2-0 lead then dropped the 3rd but took the 4th easily to win 3-1. Next on was Legend no 1 (Street) at 2! who faced a very tough opponent in Ant, he just lost the 1st 8-10, then rested the second and fought back in the 3rd but unfortunately lost 3-0. This left the match a 2-2 with Legend No 2 (Matt Harris) having a great match with his opponent, at 2-2 it looked like TWells might secure a un-lightly victory but having expended all his energy Matt lost the 5th but again 8 points gained in a close 3-2 defeat was a good result. A big thank you must go to Street and Matt for turning out, they saved us -4 point and we nearly won the match. Next week the 2nd with injury issues are away to Dulwich 3rds. The 1st Team face the top of the table Dulwich 1st team. Come down for what will be the highest level squash you’ll see in Kent leagues. Dean Newberry
