4th Team Postponed
With the 4th teams opponents not being able to field a team just 2 away matches took place last night. Today the 2nd Team are playing at Home, please come down to support and help TWSRC get at least one win this week.
With a long trip up to Dulwich at under strength 1st team took on a strong Dulwich 2nd team who had even beaten their 1st team the week before.
First on was “Club Champ” who taking a turn at 1 played a good game against the consistent and rhythmic Gorden. Gorden was to strong though and won 3-0
Meanwhile on Duwich’s show court “The Youngster” was having a tough battle against the very disruptive Nick. “The Youngster” took the 1st then lost the 2nd but comfortably too the 3rd. The 4th game was a battle from start to finish with there never being more than a 2 point gap. The away team hopes were up when “The Youngster” took an 8-6 lead but Nick fought back to take the match to a 5th. The last game was equally close with “The Youngster” keeping ahead most of the game to then take the match 3-2
Stepping up from the 2nd team “Mr Captain” was having a good game against Dulwich’s no5 Alex. There were lost on long rallies but Alex seemed to always come out on top. A brave fight by “Mr Captain” but a 0-3 loss.
The last two matches on were Martin Snow aka “Snowey” (Poor nickname, I know!) against the very competitive Masters player Joss Hargrave and Dean Newberry aka “Club Captain” against the every moving Will.
“Snowey” lost a tight first game then looked like he might take the 2nd when with an 8-3 lead he tinned a safe drive to what would be 9-3 up. From that point despite not actually changing his game or not doing too much different did not win another point. The watching crowed and “Snowey” himself could not work out how that happened. 0-3
“Club Captain” had the dubious honour of playing on the show court. After 8 months recovery from his ankle injury playing the fast Will was not what the “club Captain” wanted. This proved to be the case as despite not having lost to Will before Will changed everything down and “Club Captain” was left wondering if he’s ever going to play good squash again. 0-3
Meanwhile the 3rd team had the dubious honour of traveling to Sydenham. Tom Blagden’s fitness seems to be improving after battling in a thought game that Adam thought he should have won but ending out losing 2-3
Paul McCleod was actually out hit buy his opponent which will be a very rare occurrence. Paul insisted he should have won but a 0-3 loss suggests otherwise.
Adam Barnes won a scrappy match against a Left handed player so as per usual lots of traffic Issues to the ball 3-2. On the other court Webbo had a difficult match and went down 0-3, maybe his knee has not fully recovered from last week.
With the team already 3-1 down it was down Will Burke who had no opponent last week to salvage some what might be vital points at the end of the season. After a tough 4 games the match was at 2-2. Wills youth and fitness then showed through as we took the 5th games comfortably to take the match 3-2.
