Fire Safety Procedures

Ensuring member and guest safety while on club premises is a priority for the committee.

Due to the nature of the club’s usage, it is not possible to have fire safety trained individuals on site. As such the club relies on having suitable warning systems and ensuring members are aware of the actions to be taken in the event of a fire.

The club has a comprehensive and well-maintained fire alarm system that will activate in the event of smoke being detected. This alarm system is serviced by a specialist company every 6 months and the manual activation buttons are tested weekly.

In the event the alarm activates any members or guests on site should immediately exit the building and proceed to the assembly point at the entrance to the car park. If any juniors, or persons of reduced mobility, are on site other members should assist them in exiting the building. Once outside the building and in a safe location the fire brigade should be notified via a 999 call.

The location and design of the club premises means that the only safe fire exit is via the club's main entrance. Leaving via any other door will lead to the enclosed, rear, courtyard, from which it is difficult to move away from the building. As such use of these exit routes should be avoided if possible.

In the event that a fire is discovered before the alarm system activates the alarm should be manually activated using the buttons situated in the ground floor entrance hall and the entrance into the first-floor bar lounge.

Fire extinguishers can be found in the ground floor hallway, court corridor and the first-floor bar lounge. Members should only attempt to extinguish a fire if they can do so without risk to themselves or others. Care should also be taken to ensure that the correct type of extinguisher is used for the particular type of fire. The extinguishers themselves include details of when they can be used. The extinguishers are serviced by a specialist company annually.

If the electricity to the site fails emergency lighting will automatically activate to aid exiting of the premises.

Fire doors are in place at the entrance to both changing rooms, and the entrances to the corridor behind the courts, the bar lounge and the bar itself. Automatic closing mechanisms are fitted to the latter three doors. These mechanisms automatically release in the event of the alarm sounding. These closing mechanisms are tested weekly.

Your responsibilities:

Please familiarise yourself with the above and the location of the manual alarms and fire extinguishers

In the event of a fire, follow the above instructions, do not stop to collect belongings and do not re-enter the building until it has been declared safe by the appropriate authorities

Keep all exit routes and doorways clear at all times

Report any fire hazards (such as blocked exits or faulty equipment) to the committee as soon as possible

Thank you for your co-operation in helping us keep the club safe for everyone.

If you have any questions or would like further information, please feel free to contact the committee via the link on the website.
