Tunbridge Wells Squash Club held its 3rd PSA Open Tournament on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th January 2017. Following the recent passing of Colin Payne, the tournament was named The Colin Payne Tournament and a memorial trophy was presented to the men's and ladies winners following the final on Saturday evening.
Colin was a stalwart member of the club and first team player for many years and was well known in the wider squash community having won the British over 50s National Squash Championship, and had been a professional player on the PSA World Tour. Colin won the Kent Championship 5 times, Kent over 35s Championship 10 times, and represented Kent County on more than 100 occasions.
Colin was instrumental in bringing the first Professional Open Tournament to the Club in 2014 and was a leading light in the squash scene for most of his adult life.

Number 1 seed Charles Sharpes makes his debut appearance at the tournament, although not his first appearance at TWSRC having entertained members playing former world number one James Willstrop in an exhibition event a few years ago. A local lad from Bermonsdey South London, he joined the pro tour in only 2009 and has risen to a current position of 50 in the world. |

Welcome back Richie, current title holder! Richie entertained the club last year with his first round match against club 1st team player Jolyon Head, winning 3-1, he then went on to claim the title. Currently ranked 62 in the world but number 2 seed this year, it could be a close final if both top seeds make it that far! |

Jason, our very own TWSRC professional and formerly World Ranked 161, has been awarded a wildcard entry into this prestigious event, and will be taking-on Vinicius Rodrigues, WR 132 and the current South American Champion, in the first round at 10.15 am on Friday 13 Januray.
